The Cashmere

Commitment to responsible actions is a keystone of IAYS and it is our priority to use the best materials and manufacturing partners. Our raw material are sourced from Inner Mongolia, prioritizing the highest standards of fineness and length.

Responsible Wool Standard

The wool we use is sourced from cashmere goats in the harsh cold climates of the high plateaus in Mongolia. Given that the raw material is obtained from living animals, prioritizing animal welfare holds paramount importance for us and we work with suppliers having certificates for R.W.S - Responsible Wool Standard and the Good Cashmere Standard. Responsible wool standard is a voluntary standard that addresses the welfare of animals and the land they graze on.

IAYS only uses certified yarn, signifying that our products live up to the high standards for textile and animal welfare.

Organic

Organic cashmere means there is no use of fertilizers or pesticides on the grazing land of the goats and no there are no harmful dyes in the water before its release into the environment. It also means that the incorporation of social standards ensures the well-being of individuals involved throughout the entire process.

With the vision of crafting knitwear meant to endure the test of time, our focus lies in embracing a concept of slow luxury that seamlessly blends age-old craft techniques with contemporary production.

How to take care of your cashmere

Wash & Dry
You don’t need to wash your cashmere after every wear, but keeping your pieces clean is essential to prevent moth attraction. For plain or fine knits, handwashing with a special cashmere wash at home is recommended. Alternatively, you can use a washing machine with a delicate, hand-wash, or wool setting at a maximum temperature of 30°C and no spin. Always place your cashmere piece in a laundry bag before machine washing. For stains or more extensive cleaning, opt for a dry-cleaning service.

When drying your cashmere, lay the piece flat on a towel, roll it loosely, lightly press, and then allow it to air-dry flat. Avoid hanging to minimize the risk of stretching.

Ironing & Steaming
To remove creases from your cashmere, turn the piece inside out and lay flat. Turn the iron to the lowest heat setting and avoid direct contact between the iron and the cashmere by laying a damp cloth between them. If using a hand-held steamer, keep some distance between the hot face and the cashmere.

Pilling
Pilling is a natural occurrence in any cashmere garments, resulting from the friction of daily wear against the loose fibers on the surface of the yarn. To address this, you can use a cashmere comb by laying the garment flat and delicately brushing away any pills.

Storing
The best way to store your Cashmere is to fold your piece instead of hanging it to prevent any risk of losing its shape. Store your cashmere in a cool, ideally dark drawer or on a shelf and consider using cedar wood balls as a natural moth repellent, replacing them annually.
